First Aid Courses for Working in the Equine Environment - October 2014…
THREE-DAY FIRST AID AT WORK QUALIFICATION (Accepted for the BHS register of Instructors) - Mon 13th to 15th Oct (£145.00 per person for the 3 days) from 9.30am
All students will be assessed by independent assessors on their ability to act safely, promptly and effectively for a casualty who is unresponsive, requires CPR and who is wounded and bleeding.
This course is spread over 3 days (a minimum of 18 hours) and includes:
First Aid at Work Regulations and Rules, Accident Reporting, Scene safety and horse safety, Initial Assessment, Recovery Position, Helmet removal and body protector removal, CPR, Adult Choking, Conscious and Unconscious riders, Serious Bleeding Management,Wounds, Bandaging and Embedded Objects, Shock Management, Spinal Injury Management,Fractures,Strains and Sprains, Burns and Scalds, Head Injuries and Eye Injuries, Poisoning, Bites and Stings, Temperature Injuries - Heat Stroke, Heat Exhaustion and Hypothermia, Crush Injuries and Chest Injuries, Diabetes, Anaphylaxis, Heart Attack, Angina, Stroke, Asthma and Respiratory Problems, Hyperventilation.

Run by Medi-K at Thurleigh Equestrian Centre, this alternative offers a complete overview of first aid procedures, and predominately focuses on the injuries most likely to be sustained whilst handling and riding horses. All participants will receive training by an experienced, qualified First Aid instructor and horse rider. On successful completion of this course all participants receive a certificated and nationally recognised qualification in First Aid.
This course consists of 6 hours of both theoretical and practical activities, including:-
Responsibilities and reporting, Resuscitation, Fainting, Assessment of the situation, Choking, Hygiene, Bleeding control, Shock, Minor burns and scalds, Riding hat and body protector removal, Recovery Position, Foreign Objects, Seizures, and Legalities.

Char is an international dressage rider and trainer who has helped numerous riders up through the level in both dressage and eventing. Her experience at competing at Grand Prix give her clients a practical and workable insight on how to improve performance.

Ginny is a registered side-saddle instructor, is the team manager of the British Side-Saddle display team and has successfully produced Working Hunters for HOYS and the Royal International Horse Show. This clinic caters for riders who have never tried it and would like to give it a go on their horse or those who already have their own side-saddle and wish to improve their skills. A variety of side-saddles will be available to use on the day and we can also provide a horse for the lesson for an additional £15.00 charge should you need it.

Ginny Oakley is back with us for another side saddle clinic. Ginny is a registered side-saddle instructor. She has competed at Advanced Level in Dressage, Show Jumping and Eventing, is the team manager of the British Side-Saddle display team and has successfully produced Working Hunters for HOYS and the Royal International Horse Show. Each 1hr lesson is £45.00 per person (lessons in pairs) and side saddles are provided. Complete beginners are also welcome! Ginny is also happy to teach you astride if you prefer.

Beat This Dressage to Music (in the Indoor School)
Sunday 2nd February, 2014.
Thurleigh Equestrian Centre is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the fantastic Beat This Dressage to Music, hosting a number of clinics over the next few months involving ridden workshops for those wanting to learn more about dressage to music, develop a freestyle and/or find some really great music for competing or training that suits horse and rider. The clinics are tailored to cater for all abilities for dressage to music, whether just starting out or working towards the next level.
The next clinic will be on Sunday 2nd February 2014 where there will be an individual warm-up & training session with Kim Darlow, followed by a personal music consultation with Claire Ackerman and the opportunity to ride to music. If clients wish to work on a freestyle routine then please let us know at the time of booking. Your test can also be video recorded.
Price for a 50 minute session including arena hire is £60.

Pick the test you wish to ride, from Prelim to Advanced Medium Level (for 20 x 60m arena).
1 hr session includes test judging, scoring and videoing of the test. Your video will be reviewed with Mark and training provided to improve your marks.

Our first Christmas Show was a great success with 3 classes well attended, with all competitors making great efforts to turn-out in appropriately “festive” attire.

Dressage Clinic with Mark Townsend
Mark has trained under several leading instructors including Jenny Ward (List 1 Judge), Sarah Dwyer- Coles (International Dressage Rider) and Jennie Loriston Clarke. He has won the Pat Smallwood Training Award, The Young Trainer’s Award and was voted the ‘Your Horse’ magazine ‘Instructor of the Year’ in 1996. He has trained to Advanced level and competed at all levels (dressage) up to and including Prix St George.
